Stewardship

God doesn't want stockpiles. He wants all of our stock piled on his alter of ministry. The widow gave all that she had, while the others gave what they could easily afford. With a cheerful heart, give God everything you have: your life, your money, your resources, your relationships, your hobbies, and your free time.

I compartmentalize my giving into a well-budgeted percentage. I love giving to God but I lean more towards the guy who can afford to give to God, not the gal who gives more than she can afford - everything.

Stewardship is strategically living life in the light of using my resources to joyfully further God's kingdom. The more I spend on God from an unselfish heart, the more I invest in His kingdom.

Your Lust Hates Your Guts

As you traverse the exciting times of being a young person, you are getting to know a part of you that is tricky - your lust. Your lust is almost like a separate entity inside of you. It hijacks your mind, supercharges your hormones, and plans out multiple methods to fulfill itself.

If you are a nonChristian, your lust is working in concert with your mind and spirit because all three want the same thing: instantaneous fulfillment of your lust. Your only hope is asking God to change your heart. Read Ephesians 1 and 2.

So, what is lust? It is the part of you that strains against any restrictions to fulfill itself. It doesn't care about you, about God, or about any other being. It may want sex or it may want technology or it may want lots of friends. It may want power and recognition. Or, it may just want to be told that you are the most amazing person in the world. Your lust is the opposite of God's love.

Lust gets out of control. Lust manipulates you to go to places and do things that you know you should never do. Lust starts by getting you to compromise in small ways because lust knows that if you feed it the little sins that you will eventually partake in the big, sick sins.

I just watched a newsclip about an Idaho teacher who had sex with a 13 year old boy. The judge publically said that she acted in lust. This teacher probably started to make small lust compromises and eventually gave herself totally over to her lust. Like her, you have an enemy within: Your Lust. Her lust destroyed her publically. Your lust will destroy you publically or privately.

The only antidote to your lust is to fight it minute by minute with the truth of the Bible. Take a stand now! Don't let your lust hijack your mind and make secret plans to fulfill itself. Take every thought captive to Jesus Christ. Live every minute in the way of Jesus Christ: Love God and Love Everyone Else! Starve out your lust by feeding your spirit and mind the TRUTH of Jesus Christ!

How do you feel about the egg-producing industry throwing 200,000 baby chicks alive into meat grinders? Is that wrong?

How do you feel about the abortion industry sucking the limbs off of, sticking scissors into the skulls of, dissolving the bodies of ALIVE baby humans? Is that wrong?

Well, if you are a typical American, the baby chicks' cheeping death chorus disgusts you. But, the silent agony of human nerves being ripped and broken as abortionists chop and destroy baby bodies does little to you emotionally.

What's wrong with us? Read Romans 1. We've chosen to serve a created god rather than serve God. God's children feel the pain of abortion because all babies are created in the image of God. If we don't feel that pain, we need to trade in our god and get to know the real God. He is the God of justice and love. He openly opposes the destruction of human babies on the golden altar of choice.

Cessna is out - Kodiak is IN!

Most of us have been aware that the Cessna fuel (Avgas) is phazing out, thus limiting the usefulness of mission planes of the Cessna variety. So, mission agencies like New Tribes Mission and Wycliffe Associates are pinching pennies to purchase jet fuel KODIAK planes. Jet fuel is readily available and cheap, and Kodiaks are readily available but not so cheap.

New Tribes Mission is planning on purchasing 14 Kodiaks over the next few years. Wycliffe Associates, who provide support for Bible translators, is also planning to purchase Kodiaks. The catch is that Kodiaks cost $1.3 million and with the missionary discount roll out of the hanger at just over $900K. This may sound outrageous, but a small cost when all of us pool our money together. Do a little research as to what missionary planes are utilized for and then click through to donate to Wycliffe Associates.

No other religion in the world can give the power of forgiveness like the God of Christianity can. Pray for the 15 Muslims who brutally murdered Ishtiaq Masih. Good works permeated with selfishness merit nothing in the sight of God. Only the wrath-absorbing death of Jesus can satisfy God's wrath against your sin.

The Jesus of Mormons

Two boys stopped by my house to bring me the good news of mormonism. The main point that they seemed to be making was that "Heavenly Father wants all mankind to be in heaven with him. So He sent his eternal son Jesus to die for my sins." What's the problem with that?

It sounded fine until we started to define terms. They seemed shocked that I believe in God as Triune: One Being with three distinct Persons. Another point that seemed evident but that they would not admit to was that their salvation was based on Jesus plus their good works.

What is the best approach for talking with 22 year-old mormon kids who want to bring me the good news of plural gods who want me to be in heaven with them?

It seemed like they had never heard of Christian core doctrine but were depending almost entirely on the teachings of their apostles and the Book of Mormon. Are mormons really ignorant of the teachings of Christianity?

Am I wasting my time explaining to mormon kids what I believe about Jesus Christ and justification? What should I focus my energy on, if mormons stop by and want to convert me?

Mixed Messages from China

Having just blogged about Shi Weihan being denied contact with his family and possibly being without diabetes medical care, it is interesting to read that the Chinese government is allowing Luis Palau to distribute his book A Friendly Dialogue Between an Atheist and a Christian to the athletes and coaches at the Olympic games. Also, the Chinese government is reportedly printing up 40,000 Bibles in preparation for the Olympics.

Why crack down on church leaders and simultaneously print Bibles and allow book distribution? What is the advantage for the Chinese government? Maybe, this is meant to divert attention from the recent forced abortions, imprisonment, etc.

What the Chinese government might not understand is that truly born-again Christians are bound by God's Holy Spirit to obey civil authorities. Only in rare cases when there are immoral requirements may Christians disobey. Not only do true Christians want to obey the government, they are compelled to by God the Holy Spirit. Over time, an unlawful Christian must turn to obey God and thus obey civil authority.

This chapter will impress you - Read it!
My initial thoughts:
1. The watchman bears the blood of those who he/she fails to warn. But, if the warning is given and not heeded, the blame is upon the people who ignore the warning.

2. God invites the wicked to repent. Come to Me and get a new nature that hates sin and loves Me. I'll show you Jesus knowing your sins on the cross. I'll give you faith and repentance.

3. God warns the righteous because their sins outweigh their righteousness. This describes most Americans that I know. We feel righteous and rely on our good works to give us acceptance with God and ultimately into heaven. But, God warns all of us that our rebellion outweighs our righteousness. Either we come to Him through Jesus or we perish.

4. God tells us that He doesn't enjoy dropping the hammer of justice onto sinners.

5. Since it is impossible for us to change ourselves or even to sustain interest in the true God, we are invited to come to Him for help. Seek and you will find, if you are seeking in the right place: the way of Jesus Christ.

6. Left to ourselves, we sink into self-indulgent religiosity and go our own way. Salvation is all of God and if we don't go to Him for each step, we will never come.

Bella - Movie Review

Ten out of Ten. Bella brings positive back into your living room. The lead character makes this movie, while the cameras bring the viewer right into the film. Writing this film took a year, but the produced work is like a woven tapestry. You will feel the emotion. You will relate to the scenes.

Intensity threads throughout the story, so be aware that Bella may not be a wise choice for a preteen. You will be riveted, refreshed and yet reflective following this film. There is no blasphemy, foul language or inappropriate sexual implications, let along any portrayal of immorality. (none that I noticed, but I was in rapt attention) I must say, though, that a key element to the story is a result of prior immoral behavior. Also, if you are renting this for your three kid brothers, there is a minor bathtub scene with a solo-bather, but only the face and neck are visible. It is a non-sexual bath. But, please don't let the fine print dissuade you. Check Bella out next time you're at the DVD rental.

How can you use this film in ministry? I won't tell you. Suffice it to say, just watch Bella and post me in the morning.

Chinese Christian Needs Your Assistance

Background Info:
Although China's communist party has loosened its hold a little on the thought life of the Chinese population, the party continues to persecute Christians. With the Olympics coming, the oppressive tactics have changed to target mostly Christian leaders. But, don't let that give you a false sense of ease. China is still harassing, torturing, denying medical care to, and imprisoning Chinese Christians. Top of the list are Christian booksellers, Christian orphanage/aid workers, Christian pastors, Christian evangelists. There are many Chinese Christians in prison now for their faith. But, there is one that is in dire need of your email intervention.

Meet Shi Weihan
Chinese police arrested him last fall and held Shi Weihan for over a month and then released him on lack of evidence on being a "dangerous religious element." They arrested him again on April 28th. He was seized on March 19th and has been denied contact with anyone except for a meeting with his lawyer. His crime was distributing Bibles and Christian literature. He is having major health problems because he has diabetes and it is unclear if he is getting his insulin. His lawyer reports that Shi Weihan is in really bad health at this point.

The Crime
Shi Weihan sells books that are approved by the government in his bookstore. BUT, he also owns a printing press. That is where the rub is. Although some Bibles are printed in China there are not enough to meet the demand, especially in minority languages. Shi Weihan answered the call and printed and distributed Bibles.

Weight of the Lost

Can you feel it? As they swarm past by the hundreds? The weight of the lost. You chat at the gas pump and exchange glances in the check-out line. Hundreds of times you have shared space with them. Blind and Lost! Some are ignorant, simply rejecting the God they know from the creation that surrounds them. Others content themselves with a form of godliness, while a few are openly hardened and despise God.

What can you do? What difference can I make? I posed this question to a good friend this afternoon and she said, "We need to find a way to meet them." Which is true. It is through relationships that people see the changes that a relationship with God works in us.

Relationships require time. So, what do we do to reach the thousands that brush past us in our daily lives? How do we meet them?

Stewardship of the planet that Jesus made

At $4 a gallon, many people are thinking about renewable energy. A few wish the politicians would get some drilling done in Alaska. But, it is hard to agree on environmental issues with the media and politics spreading mixed truths. No matter where you are on the eco-continuum, as a Christian, you should have one policy: Show Christ's care for His creation in your care of His planet.

I wasn't raised recycling much more than cans, so daily stewardship of household waste has been a learning curve for me. At this point, I see that it is stupid to put into a landfill what can be recycled. God may not care what I put in the trash, but He does care about my attitude towards caretaking His world.

At the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI), I ran into a really great line of biodegradable plastic-type-ware. I hate to throw plastic forks and spoons into the trash. This company makes to-go boxes, forks, spoons, knives out of food-grade, biodegradable, compostable sugarcane fibers.

It might not be feasible for individuals or small businesses to use these products, but this may be an opportunity for a larger Christian service company to witness Christ's stewardship.

North Korea - Famine Approaches

S. Korea ended the Sunshine Policy with the leadership change in Seoul. The current president made a shift in policy by requiring Kim Jung Il to humble himself and ask for help. With the out-of-control political graft in the N.K. communist party, America is reticent in giving a promised 500,000 metric tons of free food. Beijing is stuck between rising food prices domestically and the threat of thousands of starving N.K. refugees pouring over the border right before the Olympics, so Beijing has reportedly sent a few hundred metric tons of food to Pyongyang.

Regarding the Chinese policy of hunting down to deport all N. Korean refugees, a group of U.S. political leaders recently sent a letter to China requesting a cessation of this certain death practice.

Christians remain in North Korea, with an unknown number among the 200,000 political prisoners working 18 plus hours a day in concentration camps. North Korea remains the darkest nation on earth, with the population brainwashed into or forced into worshipping human spirit and Kim Jung Il.

What is our response? Finance groups which reach the N. Korean persecuted church. Pray for Kim Jung Il to turn from his wickedness and serve the living, triune God. And, for the sake of our N. Korean brothers and sisters, pray for God to relieve their starvation.

After viewing Juno, I say THANK YOU to all BIRTH MOTHERS - EVERYWHERE! God uses birth mothers to create or complete families. The life inside of your womb is precious and needed. Thank you for your love for the little life inside of you. Thank you for the struggles, pain, isolation, emotions you push through to give your baby life.

Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed - Top 10 last weekend

Despite the negative reviews, the "Expelled Exposed" website, sladerous bloggers, etc., Expelled did do some business last weekend. Here are my tips for maximizing your blog-time re: Expelled.

1. Watch the film before you make a judgement call. Don't believe internet rumor mills. Don't get ticked off and rant about ignorant, weak ___________. (you fill in the blank)

2. Always be open to examining weakness in your position. If you can't see it, you can't defend it.

3. Examine why you are an evolutionist, or a 6000 year creationists, or an ID. Why do you believe what you believe? Do you believe it because a publishing company printed it into a textbook? Do you believe it because it is in the Bible? Or, did you create a hybrid that made sense to you?

How do you interpret the discoveries and existing facts around you? I'd bet that it is through the paradigm of one of the two I just mentioned. Humans are lazy and would rather put the burden of proof onto another field of study.

4.The Bible says that Jesus Christ created the world and the creation leaves us humans without excuse for rejecting His rightful authority in our lives. I'd encourage you to find out more about Jesus Christ. If He is the creator, you need to Him seriously. Science can only point to the Creator. You have to journey to find Him yourself. Start with the Bible - the Gospel of John.

5. Leave pride behind. Pride in knowledge or the imagination of having knowledge renders the mind closed.

Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed - Movie Review

Expelled gets a half star from Star Tribune. Having seen the movie, I understand why. Along with documenting persecution of scientists by the establishment, Stein points out examples of media hate for intelligent design. So, of course the media will hate this film! In fact, the media and closed-minded evolutionists will do, say, blog anything they can to keep YOU from seeing this film.

As an educated professional with a secular master's degree, I've listened to the mockery of any criticism of the sacred Darwinian story of origins. Mud to man is revered as true observable science, with total disregard to the gaping holes in the scientific evidence. In Expelled, Ben gives the viewer a look at the persecution of scientists who speak of intelligent design. He hints at the lack of evidence for evolution and illuminates the horrible implications of natural selection.

Tired of being spoon fed the children's story of electricity birthing life into dissolved rock which exploded out of a piece of matter the size of a period on this page? Are you interested in investigating why the evolutionists and media hate this film? At the very least, you'll enjoy this film for its entertainment value. I did. And, I give Expelled 4 out of 4 stars, with the caveat that I would like to see more about why observable science truly does demand an intelligent Creator.

See You At Stein's Screening

America has lunged towards the biased documentaries. We long for truth and look towards Hollywood or Barnes and Noble for truth. Finally, a credible, secular voice reveals how rediculous the lock-step blackout on God-created-the-world science really is. This movie looks pretty decent. With an advanced degree from a secular university, I have become fatigued from the blind adherance to the dogma of evolution. It will be fun to see something that isn't crafted to indoctrinate me into the unbelievable goo to geekman tale of evolution.

They hated Jesus for saying things like I am the only way to God. If you believe in me, you are saved. If you don't, you are going to a place of gnashing of teeth.

In response to the demands that all religions be characterized as equal, MM Outreach Media Ministries closed up Canadian shop and moved south.

This is coming in our country, although we may be 30 years out. So, how should we respond?

1. Evangelize. Help people understand that salvation in Christ is better than getting what you deserve outside of Christ. Jesus operates in the hearts of men and women, powerfully changing beliefs, desires and behaviors. Personal evangelism is far-reaching. Wherever the word goes, the Holy Spirit effectively calls His chosen elect.

2. Push back the God-haters politically and philosophically. Engage the press, politics, media. Fight against the legislation that targets free speech.

Tolerance isn't accepting as equal - tolerance is simply tolerating.

Missionary Vision Builds Gradually

To build mission-minded vision, you must have a multi-faceted approach.
A. Personal devotion to Christ and being faithful to serve Him in the little areas of your life.
1. Switch to Christian music and sermons in the car.

B. Don't separate Christ from your secular life. Obey the Holy Spirit's opening of doors to witness, regardless of the circumstances. Remember: Wise and gentle, with bold confidence.
1. Pray - "God, please open opportunities for me today and give me wisdom to see your hand."

C. Relish the past by reading biographies about missionaries and martyrs.
1. YWAM Christian Heroes is a great place to start.
2. YWAM International Adventure Series, specifically Imprisoned in Iran impressed me.

D. Build your background knowledge about closed countries, their histories and their atrocities.
1. Pick a country and research it. North Korea is #1 in persecution. Get Linking Up North Korea and view all of the menu options. Watch Seoul Train on You Tube and the other misc. North Korea videos. Finally, read Eyes of the Tailless Animals, which will transform your apathy.

E. Follow current events and be able to engage other Christians in discussing the persecution. For example, can you talk coherantly about the violence in Kenya? Do you know the name of any missionary in Kenya? Can you explain to someone the poverty percentages and why?
1. Several websites are helpful: Opendoorsusa.org and Mission Network News.
2. Get the free monthly country magazine that highlights a different closed country each month - Voice of the Martyrs.

Too timid to share

I'm reading The Man in the Mirror and Pat Morley writes this: "Often we don't share our faith in Christ with others because we fear we will offend them and they will dislike us. The fact of the matter is that half the people in the world aren't going to like you anyway, so they might as well not like you for the right reasons! If one hundred people dislike you, but one person becomes a Chrstian, would that be worth the effort? The truth is that ninety-nine out of a hundred people will want to answer and discuss the question, 'Where are you on your spiritual pilgrimage?'"

Is Your Jesus A God or The God?

It does make a difference. Either eternal, all-worthy God the Son died on a cross to pay the eternal offense of my rebellion or a god's son died on a cross to pay for something that wasn't really that bad. Most religions that make Jesus just another guy who made it to the next level have alternate ways to avoid hell. They will allow Jesus to die on the cross and rise again, but they will not allow Jesus to be the most worthy Being who transcends space and time: God. Have you ever wondered why?

You Tube Evangelism

Recently, I emailed an outstanding You Tube music video to a friend of mine who I've been witnessing to for years. Try it! Find a good music video or slide-show and email it to an unsaved friend.

While searching for a Fernando Ortega video to email, I was a little bummed out by the well-put-together dvds punctuated by idealic pictures of Jesus. Since it is obvious that God doesn't want us fixating on pictures of Him, I felt like the pickings were a little slim.

So, here's the deal: Find great videos and slide-shows of Christian songs and let me know about them. OR, create some great ones. One of the best that I can think of would be: Give Me Jesus by Fernando Ortega and Come Ye Sinners by Fernando Ortega. There are some really good Chris Tomlin songs that would make effective evangelism e-videos.

Let's flood You Tube with hundreds of sweet slide-show or lip-sinc music videos.

High Rollin'

I usually have two motivations when I'm excited about things in my life. 1. I like people to appreciate me. 2. I want others to be encouraged and fired up on serving Jesus.

The problem is that sometimes I'm not sure which is motivating me when I'm asking for prayer, doing ministry or just plain fellowshipping. Lately, I've been trying (I use the term loosely) to listen more and talk less. Which brings me back to Paul's command for me to knock off the thinking highly of myself. Can I hear an AMEN?

Jesus is the Bread of Life

World Mag has an interesting article about Daniel Naulty, a kid who retired from the majors after winning the World Series a few years back. After the World Series, he went into a depression. Here's his quote: "I thought the World Series was going to be God; it was going to be salvation. And, I realized after we won that it wasn't salvation. I was still in the exact same place I was two weeks ago, two months ago, or two years ago." (I'm Deeply Sorry article)

I have felt the same way many times, except that my accomplishments have never been as large-scale as his. Too many movies. Too much internet. Incredible adventures into wilderness areas, summiting mountains, the occasional admiration of co-workers. I've struggled with the absence of satisfaction. In my journey through my 20s and into my 30s, I've learned one thing: True satisfaction is only found in Jesus Christ. It is only through submission to His will and interaction with Him in word and prayer that I have found, dare I say, genuine satisfaction.

As our Creator, Jesus Christ knows what we were created for: to bring God glory and enjoy Him. It is like we are restless keys looking for what we were made to do. Our true happiness is when we are united with the lock that we were designed to fit. When Jesus told that discontent woman at the well in Samaria that He was the bread of life, he was saying that true soul-saturating satisfaction can only be found in relationship with Him.

So, where's the rub? The caveat is that with a relationship to Christ comes admission of guilt, submission to God, humble service and sometimes great sacrifice. The remarkable aspect is that only through a relationship with Jesus Christ can one truly enjoy life and feel satisfied. Through Jesus Christ, personal destiny is realized.

Have you felt true satisfaction in Jesus Christ? Are you still looking elsewhere?

Faithless v.s. Disowning

If we are faithless, Jesus Christ will be faithful to us because He cannot disown Himself. However, if we disown Jesus Christ, He will disown us. (2 Timothy 2:12-13 paraphrased) So, what is the difference?

If I have been born again, my dead spirit and all of its sin have been given to Jesus Christ. In return, Jesus Christ has made my dead spirit alive. Jesus Christ purchased the right to do this on the cross, proving His success because death could not hold him. Jesus has done ALL of the work in/for me - taken the sin, earned the coat of righteousness, earned the right to give life and take away death.

The Holy Spirit works in the alive spirit of the believer and produces the fruits of the spirit: faith and repentance, desres for godly living and clear vision of the reality of Jesus Christ. Therefore, since salvation is ALL of God and Jesus Christ is the 2nd person of the Trinity, He cannot disown Himself and His accomplishments for those given to Him by His father for salvation.

Disowning: Denial of Jesus Christ for who He is: Savior, God, King, Sole Avenue for Salvation. The born-again heart cannot continue in this type of rebellion. Denial of Jesus Christ is abhorrent to the desires of the new heart.

Do you need on-going faith and repentance? Or, do you need a heart that must stop denying Jesus Christ as your King, God, Savior?

Am I gay?

This question is difficult for American Christians to answer because there is so much media pressure and misinformation out there pushing the idea that there is a gay gene and people have no choice in the matter. How many have heard, "If God made me this way, wouldn't He want me to be happy? That's the God I believe in."?

Everyone is looking for happiness and fulfillment. If being gay provides that, what's the problem? Sexual intimacy with a same-sex partner will spiral into a maze where happiness is just around the next twist in the path. For that matter, sexual intimacy with a video, magazine or sexual partner will embark mixed up voyage into pain and disappointment.

Do you want to be accepted, loved, fulfilled. Do you feel that you can find that in a homosexual relationship? There is really good news for you and for every other person who knows what it is like to crave acceptance, emotional affirmation and relationship. Millions have gone before us and they have experienced what we are promised.

Our Creator and loving God will give us incredible acceptance, overflowing affirmation, joyous relationship. He provides by changing our sexual, emotional, spiritual desires so we can participate in His righteous ways. In the context of friendship with, obedience to God, the Christian experiences love, safety, understanding, unlike anything sexual orientation or the world has to offer.

Truth & Tolerance dvd from Exodus reflects God's attitude of concern, love, compassion for those He has created in His image - us. The only question you have to ask yourself is: Am I ready to trust the authority of God's word in all of its truthfulness? If you are, bring your life to Jesus and give it to Him, trusting Him to know what is best for your life.

"But, I can't. I've tried and it didn't work." Many haven't dealt with their dead spiritual conditions. If you are trying to live for God without asking Him to change your dead, deceitful nature, you will be miserable. Life is all about God, not about you. Only God can change your heart, cleanse your sins away, give you desires for a different, holy life. You'll find Him in the Bible and in prayer, at a Bible-believing church and at a Wednesday night prayer meeting.

Authentic, lasting happiness is elusive, found only in a relationship with Jesus Christ. Christ satisfies the longings eternally.

Will the Real Jesus Please Stand Up?

The good news of complete forgiveness of sins and the gift of imputed righteousness WITHOUT works is rejected by many religions. They just can't believe in God's eternally begotten Son dying on a cross to satisfy divine wrath for specific sins. Why? This doctrine cuts to the core of human self-reliance. In order to be redeemed by the true, historically accurate Jesus Christ, you MUST know yourself to be worthless, helpless, wicked, which is a significant step for proud, haughty, self-confident created beings.

How do you degrade Jesus to just a little better than human? I do it by taking away from Him His rightful attributes of infinite worth, eternal power, creator, sustainer of all, loving, caring, righteously angry, just, savior. I supplement in attributes that are more palatable or appealing to my wicked human pride.

Here's an example of humans elevating themselves and downgrading Jesus to "good prophet" status, which by the way is fairly impotent. Just another angel or holy guy. "Jesus, the Spirit of God" video denudes Jesus of His divinity, but allows the viewer to see Jesus the good prophet. Don't judge this movie by it's cover. Jesus doesn't die on the cross but is rescued. Instead, temporal vengeance is dealt with Judas dying instead.

Four thousand years of prophesy discarded. Sin is not atoned for. Righteousness is not earned. Peace with God is once again a crap-shoot.

The Jesus Christ that I know personally has given me a forgiveness and peace that has been sustained for 14 years now. He has changed me from the inside out: desires, thoughts, emotions, actions - all changed.

Jesus said it better than I can: "As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up; that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 5:14,15

The real Jesus does stand up and He isn't the brother of Lucifer, Micheal the angel, or the guy who Judas replaced. The real Jesus Christ reveals Himself to those His Father has chosen. Ask Him to have mercy on you and reveal Himself to you. Don't be fooled by the fake-Jesus, no matter how well-written the revelation or well-crafted the video.

Remember Jesus

When participating in the Lord Jesus' Supper, the pastor usually will quote Jesus, "Do this in remembrance of me."

As you symbolize the atoning sacrifice for your rebellious, hateful actions against God, who are you remembering?

Are you remembering the true Jesus who is worthy to carry the eternal judgement against you?

Or, are you remembering the Jesus that is pretty much you, except sinless?

It matters. One Jesus can save you, if you submit to Him in belief and repentance.

The other Jesus can't save you, even if you submit to him with belief and obedience - - because - - he exists only in the futile imaginations of modern-day prophets.

Witnessing to Muslims

"We are Americanizing missions. The rest of the world has no problem speaking of religion. Only Americans have that problem." - Emir Caner. Emir was raised Muslim and disowned when he came to know Jesus Christ as beautiful God and forgiving Savior in his teen years.

He says that we should stop dodging opportunities, hiding behind friendship evangelism. Instead of waiting years to speak of Jesus, Emir admonishes Americans to make the good news of a loving relationship with Jesus Christ known.

Is your Jesus THE Creator God?

Christians, Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses, Muslims... Do you believe in the Jesus who is eternally God? Or, do you believe in a Jesus who was created first and then created everything else? Or, do you believe in a Jesus who was just a decent human?

In order to have a Jesus who isn't worth much more than any other human being, you have to diminish the evil of sin.

Twisted Truth and Lies: You need a fresh start after Adam's fall and Jesus died to give you a clean slate. Sin is bad but not bad enough to need eternal God to die for it. Jesus is a created being who was a little better than you.

Truth: Rebellion against eternal, all-worthy, creator God is deserving of eternal damnation to a place of God's wrath, where a man's soul does not die.

Truth: The only being who can atone for the eternal consequences of my rebellion is the one who is eternal, all-worthy, creator God - Jesus Christ.

Your Jesus or My Jesus?

After 45 minutes of a back-and-forth with a mormon duo, I finished with this statement: "Your Jesus is different than my Jesus. One of us is wrong and one of us is going to hell. It is either me or you." The kid on the left nodded and said, "We both can't be right." The missionary to my right just glared at him. I felt sympathy for both guys because they were so blindly indoctrinated - to the point that they did not want to consider that they had a different Jesus.

Yes, I am doctrinated but I am doctrinated through a lengthly process of evaluation and re-evaluation of God's word.

As someone who has done a bit of traveling and studying in diverse ethnic and religious areas, I have come to realize that everyone has created their own Jesus, whether they name him Jesus or not. In fact, every religion has created a savior. It is just that usually that savior isn't really much different than the worshipper. He is usually a savior of human-originated good works. If you play your cards right, your Jesus might just be able to get you to heaven or at least a better place than eternal damnation in the firey ourpouring of God's eternal wrath. Eternal wrath is such a non-progressive concept anyway - many just forget about that part and focus on the positives.

To sum up, my faith has found a resting place in the person of Jesus Christ: Eternal God, Perfect Human, Sinless Sacrifice, Source of ALL Truth, Peacemaker, King of my Life. Where did I find Him? In the Bible. Unlike the mormons, I am happy that I will never attain those attributes. I only wish to be an adopted child who is forgiven and loved incredibly by Jesus Christ.

More Likeable Than Jesus

Jesus told his disciples that they would be persecuted. Essentially, Jesus is telling us that we will be targeted by others if we are truely presenting Christ out in our lives and speech. Jesus said that if they persecuted and hated Him (perfection personified) then they will hate and persecute us. Definitely, I am not more likeable or amazing than Jesus. So, expect the persecution while giving the world a dramatic presentation of God's character in all that you do and say.

Don't Waste Your Life

The last thing I want to do is generate blog material based on other people's pain or loss. So, I'll make this one short: Talking with my sister-in-law this morning about Thanksgiving and how quick life can vanish, she mentioned a testimony of a 19 year old man who died recently in a car crash. I was touched and inspired by this man's spiritual zest for Christ.

When he was 17 years old, he preached a message challenging his fellow youth to give it all for Christ and don't let the years go by wasted. Over the next two years, he lived out that message in service to Jesus, accomplishing significant advances for Christ's kingdom. Then, without knowing it was his time to see his belief in Jesus and heaven validated, he died.

Live everyday for Jesus! Let's stop messing around with worthless past-times and give it all for Christ.

Out of the comfort zone

I met my banker at the Urgent Care center last night. Without making a huge, look-at-superChristian pray scene, I was able to say a brief prayer for healing in the hallway for this guy.

Earlier in the year, he had shared with me about someone else praying for him in a hospital waiting room, which made this time a easier. But, the experience fell into a category I like to call, "redeeming the time".

I bet there could be a full-time ministry of praying for sick people in waiting rooms. Try it the next time you are in a waiting room.

Romania Targets Christians ~ Communist-Style

Even though Romania recently joined the EU, they were able to pass an anti-Christian law right before admission. Last December, Romania passed a law that requires all religious associations to register and be recognized by the Romanian government by this coming December 26th. The consequences for not being recognized are:
1. A church will no longer be a legal entity and and will be stripped of tax exemption status.
2. Without state recognition churches can no longer able to perform publically recognized church/state ordinances such as baptisms or weddings.
3. An unrecognized church ceases to exist in the mind of the Romanian government.

So, what's the big deal? Isn't this like non-profit status in the U.S.A.? No. The Romanian government does not HAVE to recognize churches. This is an old guard tactic resurrected from the communist regime. The big deal is that a significant amount of churches have applied and are waiting to be recognized. The big concern is that the Romanian government will silently freeze out Christian churches they don't like by simply failing to recognize them.

The legal team for the International Human Rights Group just returned from Romania where they met with a group of pastors to initiate legal proceedings. Basic religious rights are being violated by Romania. Standing Alone

Known for owning the ONLY Christian bookstore on the Gaza strip, Rami Kahder Ayyad lived his comittment to Jesus Christ openly. Death threats arrived but Rami ignored them and continued to sell books to the minority of Christians in Gaza. Rami chose to serve God rather than vie for the approval of man. As of October 7th, he is living in the visible presence of God.

Pray for the 3000 brothers and sisters that live in mortal danger in Gaza. Pray for the eyes of thousands more to be opened to the beauty, kindness, diety of Jesus Christ. Thank God for giving Rami the grace to testify even unto death.

Musical Benefit Concert

We went to a benefit concert for a local gospel rescue mission on Saturday evening at an out-of-the-way playhouse. The concert was put on by about 30 young twenty-somethings. The concert was a journey through animated classics, with each song individualized by costumes and set changes. Two tuxed men MCed the production, and the producer was a gal about 22 years old. Going to the production, I wasn't sure what to expect. The cost was $8 a piece and it turned out to be INCREDIBLE! The production company was Breaking Bread Productions (not related to the rapper Breakin' Bread).

I was really impressed and am still amazed that a group of young singles could pull of something that first-class. They had a lot of fun and served Christ with their talents, giving the profits to God's outstretched hand of compassion.

I just got done watching Inherantly Wind by Dr. David Menton, which is about how rediculously inaccurate the modern conception of what really went down at the Scopes Trial is. The teacher - Scopes - wasn't even a life science teacher and claimed to never have taught apes to man evolution anyway. That is true! I am intimidated by atheists because they seem militant in my mind. Other types of religious people know that God exists - they just don't KNOW who He is. So, this quote really makes sense to me!! All humans are spiritually dead and reject God and His only Son Jesus Christ. Especially, they reject the God's rightful claim on their lives and His right to be worshipped by them. The only way that anyone can see the beauty of Jesus Christ as God the Son and God the Savior is for God to open his eyes. Without a changed heart, no one will ever turn to Christ. That is why that quote is so encouraging. God calls His sheep to Himself by empowering the spoken or written gospel so that hearts are changed and minds are opened. It really doesn't matter where that sheep is in the continuum of humanism because God's call is effectual.

A quick testimony: I got a chance to explain justification and forgiveness to an atheist a few weeks ago and I've also dropped him by a gospel sermon. Come to find out later, my pastor had some business dealings with this same guy a few years ago and brought doughnuts to him for his entire staff - much to the guy's surprise. God is calling this guy - first through Christian actions and then through the gospel message. Pray for RF.

Here's some encouragement to y'all out there doing the Lord's work. It's easy to burn out or ego up. It boils down to a few factors. Resist the bitterness that accompanies thankless ministry. If my motives are altruistic, I'll burn out. If my motivation is to please myself or impress others, I'm a humanist. If I'm unsubmissive in ministry, it's my work and not Christ's.

As a Christian, I obey and reach out in compassion to bring appreication to Jesus Christ. Ministry is a fruit of the Spirit from a forgiven heart of repentence and thankfulness.

So, who WILL give you strength in ministry? Who knows your works? "I know your works and your labour and your patience," says Jesus Christ - God Almighty. Rev. 2:2.

Flesh: Till death do we part.

Before Christ, you didn't fight your flesh. In fact, you obeyed it. Being crafty, your flesh rarely asked you to do anything that it had not conditioned you to believe was acceptable.

With a new spiritual heart born inside of you, the flesh faces a bit of a challenge. No longer will you simply slide compliantly down the vortex into deeper sin. Instead, the flesh thrusts its trident into the new heart, seeking to choke out the Godly desires. Simultaneously, the flesh targets areas of lust that proved to be susceptible in the past. Any type of moral weakness is now exploited by the flesh. The flesh lies and tells you that "you can't help yourself." In fact, you really don't have a choice because you are a "prisoner to your desires." "You were born this way," suggests your flesh. Along with those two assaults, the flesh masquerades as your conscience and tortures you with wickedness from your past.

You need medicine: Jesus Christ and his words of truth. Like most medicine, you must take a daily dose of fellowship with Jesus Christ.

3. Can the word see my peace with God?

5. Am I telling others about reconciliation with Christ?

The Call in Nashville

A few weeks ago, an estimated 50,000+ poured into Nashville for a repentance march and an all-day worship and prayer service at the local football stadium. Sam Brownback and Micheal W. Smith were there and had a low-key but authentic presence. The focus was entirely on honoring God. In the midst of 90+ degree southern heat, Christians prayed for God to forgive our country and bring Christ back into our nation. My friend, Brian, drove 2-days to attend and was blessed. He came away with a sense that we need to be more serious in our relationships with God.

Asian Hope Brings Christ to Cambodia

Cambodia was ravaged by a dictator regime but is now plagued by poverty, slavery, child prostitution. Tucked in between Vietnam and Thailand, with Laos to the north, Cambodia groans under the curse of sin, waiting for the redemption of Jesus Christ.

I first became aware of Asian Hope a few years ago when World Magazine ran a report about their work. At that time, there were about 30 kids living with one missionary family, with about 100 kids attending the Asian Hope school. (or at least that’s how I remember it.)

Now, Asian Hope houses 25 orphans and continues to provide Christ-centered education to impoverished Cambodian children and teens. Mark in Denver just phoned in a quick synopsis on Saturday's conference.

Most of the speaking was done by the Harris twins and the focus was on rebelling against the idea of accepting that teens have to waste their adolescent years on just messing around. Instead, teens should rebel and be men and women who strive to serve God. Parents were exhorted to have high expectations of their teenagers and teens were called to set the bar high for themselves. Instead of settling for mediocre, teenagers should spend their time impacting the world for Christ.

Alex and Brett’s dad, Gregg Harris spoke for one session and ended with an invitation for people to come to Christ. It was cool because he didn’t say, “bow your heads and close your eyes.” Instead, he challenged those who wanted to come to Christ to STAND UP! He said that he didn’t want anyone sneaking into the kingdom. Greg told the kids that if you are ashamed of Christ than he will be ashamed of YOU!

Dallas is the next stop for THE REBELUTION! Will you be there? What are you doing with your teen years? Are you wasting them? Stand Up for Jesus! Don’t be ashamed of Him. Give your “best years” to Him – don’t look back on distant memories of friends, sports and movies!

God answered our prayers and there was a complete absence of persecution from the Atlanta police. The police were helpful and did their job to ensure safety. The gospel was preached at every major entrance to the park where the homosexual rally was being held.

Thanks for praying! God's will be done and may many repent and turn to Jesus Christ because of the gospel preaching. There is freedom in Christ from the enslaving desires of our sinful hearts. There is peace, fulfillment and passion when God changes a sinner's heart to love and obey Him.

Boy sits alone at food court table in mall. He wears black and has chains hanging in big loops down his pants. He has hopeless written all over his defiantly passive face. This scene repeats itself a thousand times across this one nation under God. The only thing that stands between that kid and his hearing the gospel is my inhibitions.

While sitting in the dentist chair a few weeks ago for drinking too much Pepsi, I mentioned something about how amazing the creation is. The dental technician immediately told me that he leaned towards evolution and countered my statement. He didn’t seem to have any inhibitions about expressing what he believed.

Frequently, a friend of mine comments on her views about society and morality, only she is a secular-humanist and believes in gay marriage. She doesn’t seem to worry about offending me or my beliefs.

Chris sat next to me on the plane last week. She made numerous statements that all religions worship the same god. Why didn’t she feel nervous about sharing her faith?

At the movies, Homer Simpson is frantically trying to save the world – he flips through the Holy Bible and shouts – “There are no answers in here.” Hollywood lives to indoctrinate and ridicule Christians. They don't have any inhibitions!

Why are we afraid? I can sum it up in one word: FLESH. Our flesh hates the truth of God. Our spirit knows it is true and believes it. The flesh is like the world living in us. It agrees with the world. That is why Jesus Christ says to crucify the flesh and Paul says to bring our flesh into submission.

Seek the approval of God, not man! Try to be like the world on this one issue: Be open about what you believe and why!

Outreach to Homosexuals - Atlanta GA June 23rd

Atlanta police are getting ready to ignore topless lesbians in the public park and arrest modestly dressed Christians for daring to utilize their free speech rights in teaching how God feels about sin.

(I know - I couldn't help but throw in a National Enquirer type lead! Sorry)

On a serious note: Pray that the God of love, who created us to be in a relationship with Him and live lives which reflect His moral purity, will touch many hearts and lifestyles this weekend at the Piedmont Park demonstrations. Pray that the Christians will be loving but clear in teaching about God's character and His willingness to forgive. Pray that police will respect the rights of the Christians and uphold the laws of Atlanta regarding the displays of nudity.

Remember: you deserve to burn in hell for your rebellion so don't despise others. Instead, feel sorry for them in their blindness and pray for God's love to illuminate their understandings to see the truth.

Why not gay marriage? God made Adam and Eve 6000 years ago and created one flesh. Jesus affirmed this account as historically accurate when he defended marriage and stated it as one man and one woman - till death do they part.

Lottie was teaching in Georgia when her sister sent her a letter giving her advice about going to China as a missionary. "True, you are doing a noble work at home, but are there not some who could fill your place? I don't know of anyone who could fill the place offered you here (China). Summer is almost here! Is it time for a summer mission trip? I've gotten 2 letters thus far, letting me know that it's time to send some money. Nothing makes me happier than writing a check to send someone out into concrete jungles or to dusty shanties to serve and teach in Jesus' name. Where are you going? For me... an American Indian reservation in AZ and relief work in the Domincan Republic. I pray that God has some lost sheep there waiting to hear the Master's voice!

WOW! I just read an incredible article about Malay Christians in Malaysia. Basically, 61% of the population is native and thus locked into Islam. In a "freedom of religion" country, these people aren't allowed to even enter churches. The churches only exist to convert Indian or Chinese people living in Malaysia. So, through miraculous conversions and lonely lives, small groups of Malay Christians survive and spread the gospel. Malays face torture and electric shock or re-education at Islamic re-education centers. "One of our friends is totally mad because they burned his brain. Sometimes they will kidnap you in a van..." says a Malay Christian. In spite of persecution, Malay Christians testify to intense love for Christ. They are willing trade health, family, life because of the friendship and forgiveness they experience from Jesus Christ.

"No effort should be spared in seeking out those Catholics who have fallen away and those who know little or nothing of Jesus Christ," - Pope Benedict in Brazil this week.

Do you have as much evanglistic zeal as Pope Benedict? We have the gospel of justification through faith alone and not of works, lest anyone should boast. I am guilty of sparing effort in the search for souls. I spare effort constantly because of anticipated embarrassment or awkward pauses. Our salvation is not based on our recruiting efforts, so we don't feel the heat like other religions do. But, Jesus commands us to go. He says to tell the world about Him. If you love Jesus and know that He is the most beautiful reason for life, go out and tell some people about Him.

So, get that spare effort out and let's spread the good news.

We visited the Seoul Bible Church and, as could be expected, met some single Christian teachers. God powerfully uses Christian singles who are willing to throw caution to the wind and teach overseas. Children's hearts instinctively know that God exists. Will you be the one who teaches them who that God really is and how much He loves them? Will you be the one to teach them that they can be best friends with their Creator because He has revealed Himself totally in the person of Jesus Christ?

Dinner for two, anyone? Take some time to get away by yourself once or twice a week. Sneak off to a resturaunt with your Word in hand. Enjoy reading the word and realizing that Jesus Christ is really man and really God, communicating vividly with you verse by verse.

Openly pray before your meal, read and jot notes in your margins. You'll be surprised how intimately Jesus Christ will speak to you. He is alive and is ready to make Himself known to you through a living lifeline - the Bible.

This dinner for two will also be a tremendous witness to the myriads surrounding you who casually glance over to notice that there is something living and active within that relic of American culture - the Bible. Openly reading and praying is a viable witnessing tool and will encourage, convict or intrigue those who watch you.

As you leave, drop a nice tip on the table and tuck a tract under the receipt. You might also be surprised by an opportunity to ask your server about his/her faith. A simple question of, "What's your favorite verse in the Bible?" can be a springboard into a bit of witnessing.

After reading a few YWAM International Adventure books, one commonality struck me: In order to minister to a person, I must love and have compassion for him/her.

While we were enemies and haters of Christ, Jesus Christ died on the cross to soak up the wrath of God for our sins. Imagine how unlovable we were and are, constantly rebelling and full of sin. Yet, God loves us enough to take our sin and death onto Himself, change us from the inside to love what He loves, and put God the Holy Spirit into us.

How can you sustain zeal in ministry?
1. "Peter - do you love me? Feed my sheep." In short, do it because you love Jesus Christ and enjoy doing what He loves - ministering to filthy sinners.
2. "Love your neighbor as yourself." Minister to people because you love them and care about what happens to them now and in eternity.
3. Read, Pray, Rebuke bitterness and envy in your thoughts.

"Turn you eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face. And, the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His beauty and grace."

What did you give up for Lent?

People ask that a lot this time of year. It is a great time to mention that the reason for giving up something for Lent is to remind yourself for 40 days that Jesus gave up Heaven, Glory and His Life to pay for your sins. Then, on the 40th day, we rejoice because that is the day that Jesus Christ proved that He conquered death and sin by becoming alive again. He and only He can make you alive too. So, what did you give up for Lent?

Here's the ministry idea for Lent: Prayer walk around your neighborhood. Prayer walk around your local public school. Our society has gone totally secular, with just a few trappings of Christianity left. Pray for revival and for the kids to learn the truth about sin, Jesus and their need for a new life in Him.

Ideas for gettin' radical IN HIS NAME!

As we well know, especially the longer you've known the LORD JESUS, personally, walking the Christian walk is often times an uphill climb. We know, too, that the victories are always sweet when won in the Spirit of CHRIST. My desire is to encourage a brain-storming of, and posting of more ideas and examples that allow tender Christians to get out and enjoy God's creation without so much temptation from the world... (satan always attempting to get a foothold). FOR EXAMPLE, a Christian may enjoy dancing, but nightclubs present many temptations for the lust of the eyes and of the flesh. *Inspire ideas that glorify the LORD!*

A few ideas I had:
-Prayer walks (even in you can't get out of the city)
-Hiking in nature (praising Him for creation)
-Writing letters and/or making crafts for friends
-Cooking & baking for friends and/or the needy
-Reading Bible stories (kids LOVE to read/be read to)

Sweet Deal on John Piper Books for Easter

Every six months, John Piper offers one of his evangelism books for $1/book. It is that time of year again, as Easter is approaching, and Fifty Reasons Why Jesus Came To Die is ready for you to grab up and hand out.

We've handed out several hundred of Piper's $1 books in the past 4 years. Some have given them out at work or given them to strangers on the street. Last year, I put bows on the front covers and left them on all of my neighbors' front door-steps the night before Easter Sunday. For the past 2 years, I've wrapped up John's books in Christmas paper and left them out as gifts in the breakroom at work. Every year, at least 10 t0 20 people have taken them anonymously.

Get a few friends to go in on a case of Fifty Reasons Why Jesus Came To Die. You'll see some serious evangelistic excitement! Leave a book with your tip the next time you're out having some good eatin'.

Get creative in how you hand these out... Give them to every solicitor that comes to your door. Insist on all J.W.s taking one... I love these books and have had so much fun handing them out.
